October 26, 2009 − It's not just the St. Joe Valley Metronet that’s big on the high-speed, dark−fiber optic technology that permits it to transmit massive amounts of data in the blink of an eye. Soon, a company called Allied Fiber will connect the coasts via a similar system, which allows multiple carriers to "light," or turn on, the dark fiber and control the waves of light on which the information travels.
July 1, 2009 − On a bitingly cold winter morning, brutal winds and subzero temperatures batter the exterior of the Desert Dome at Potawatomi Park in South Bend, transforming the world outside into a wasteland of snow and ice. But safe inside the glass and steel structure, the city’s collection of exotic desert plants basks in a flow of steady heat generated by a bank of high-performance computer servers located nearby. Connected by a high-speed network of dark fiber known as the St. Joe Valley Metronet (SJVM), the servers provide computational power and data for computers some five miles across town on the Notre Dame campus.

August 25, 3008 − South Bend, IN − Jim Zeoli knows firsthand that jumping on the Metronet bandwagon can be a positive move for area companies. The vice president and chief technology officer of Press Ganey Associates −− which got on the Metronet in late 2006 with two of its sites and finished connecting all of its seven sites in South Bend this spring −− considers the performance, capacity and cost of the fiber optic cable a win-win for the company.
June 21, 2008 − A grape compared to a basketball. That’s how Pat Ames, vice chancellor for Information Technologies at Indiana University South Bend, described the difference in Internet bandwidth following the school’s connection to the "I-Light" network about a year and a half ago.
June 1, 2008 − The state of Indiana is developing plans for a revolutionary information highway, and interestingly enough it would run alongside one of Indiana’s busiest highways. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is spearheading an initiative to build a fiber optic line along the Indiana Toll Road that would vastly improve communication connectivity, roadway safety, and increase the possibility for economic development. What’s unique about the technology infrastructure is that it would be funded through private dollars and not at the taxpayers’ expense.
