Madison Center

South Bend−based Madison Center, Indiana’s largest regional mental health provider, was one of the first subscribers to the Metronet high−speed dark fiber system when it began operations more than three years ago.

Currently, all of the Center’s electronic medical records are stored at its co−location site and transmitted there via the ’Metronet pipe.’ Madison also uses the Metronet for its Internet needs.

"We signed up both to support this worthwhile community project and for the expanded bandwidth that gave us the speed to get to our co−location site in downtown South Bend," says Wendy Chapman, interim CEO.

"According to our IT department," Chapman continues, "we have all the speed we need on the Metronet because it is dark single mode fiber."

The velocity of data transmission depends almost entirely on the kind of equipment a subscriber uses.

"The last time we checked, we were the fastest entity on the Metronet (running at 10 gigabits per second)," she says. "Speed is limited only by the type of equipment used."

Chapman also notes that the system’s looped redundancy and HIPAA compliance are greatly appreciated.
